SADS
HK, together with the Hong Kong Fire Service Department and the Hong Kong Red
Cross, held a large-scale educational event called " Resuscitation
Alliance- CPR Parade" on July 13, 2024, at Hollywood Plaza in Diamond
Hill, Hong Kong. The event aimed to promote the importance of cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Nearly 100
participants, including secondary school students from different schools,
gathered to demonstrate CPR. The event featured various booths, interactive
experiences, and kids workshops, attracting a large number of citizens eager to
learn. The highlight of the event was the "100-person CPR Challenge,"
where participants used a mobile phone apps for CPR simultaneously, led by
instructors from the Hong Kong Red Cross, showcasing their CPR skills.
We
were honored to have Dr. Choi Yuk-Lin, JP, the Secretary for
Education Bureau, join our event and deliver a speech to support all
participants. Dr. Choi encouraged the community to promote CPR and AED
education further. With the enthusiastic encouragement of guests and onlookers,
all students performed CPR correctly and successfully completed the challenge.
This event not only enhanced participants' awareness of cardiac first aid but
also served as an excellent platform for public education, promoting the
concept of "saving lives".
In
addition, the we invited Hong Kong's women's Basketball Player, Miss Yan Hui
and the athlete Mr. Eric Cheung to share stories about athletes' heart
health. They emphasized the importance of screening and risk assessment to
ensure heart safety during sports activities to avoid the risk of sudden death
because of SADS. They also expressed their hope that everyone would learn first
aid, especially CPR and AED usage, to be able to save lives in emergencies.
Equipping oneself with first aid knowledge is essential to be ready to
"save lives " at any time.
Apart from the exciting content mentioned above, the Hong Kong Fire
Services Department also performed a drama featuring "Anyone" to
promote cardiac first aid knowledge and demonstrate the use of AEDs. After the
ceremony, the venue transformed into a carnival of game booths. Interactive
activities for the public included CPR and AED exercises, kid’s workshops…
allowing the public to grasp the key steps of emergency first aid. We hope that
through this event, the public can become guardians of cardiac patients and the
community, enhance their cardiac first aid knowledge, and inspire their sense
of social responsibility, creating a caring community that values life.
